Introducing our Subbies Coaching Team for 2020

Coach - Ashleigh Fisher

Hi my name is Ashleigh and I am the Head Coach of the 2020 Deanne Subbies team. I have been a participant with Deanne Calisthenics Club for 13 years now, I started when I was a first year Junior. I have been an active coach for the past 8 years coaching from Tinies through to Juniors. I have also been a solo and duo coach for many years now.

My favourite thing about coaching the younger age groups is that it is so rewarding when they are so excited before and after they go on stage. One of my favourite items to coach would be rods as I personally really enjoy rods and I like to be fun and as creative as I can be.

Outside of Calisthenics I like to keep myself busy with spending weekends with my family down the coast at our new coast house and playing community sports such as oztag. I am very grateful for my mum introducing me to Calisthenics when I was younger because I have made so many friendships and have had lots of fun with my team, especially at interstate conceptions. Calisthenics has taught me a lot of confidence and commitment the past 13 years.

I am very excited to be coaching the Subbies team this year and I am looking forward to a great year ahead filled with fun and great results.

Senior Cadet - Aithne Dann-Hotchin

I have been dancing with Deanne for around 12 years, and really love Calisthenics. I enjoy participating in the dance sport myself, and have taken part in solo, club and representative competitions. In the last few years I have also begun my coaching journey with the club and have appreciated and enjoyed the experience.

Cadet - Tarra Salter

Hi, my name is Tarra and this is my second year being a part of the coaching team at Deanne! I wanted to cadet again this year because I love working with children and I love calisthenics so combining the two made perfect sense. I started calisthenics back in 2002, I danced for three years, took a break and came back to it in 2014. I’m very glad I rejoined Deanne and started calisthenics back up because, without it, I wouldn’t have made all of life long friendships I have today and learnt about the importance of teamwork, dedication and practise!

Class Assistant - Annabelle Patten-Richens

I have been dancing since I was around the age of 3. I always loved dancing, and discovered Calisthenics in 2015, joining Tinies at the age of 6.  Since I joined Deanne, I have learnt many skills and am looking forward to sharing these with others and spreading my love for Calisthenics, as a Class Assistant this year.

My favourite parts about Calisthenics are the opportunities we have, including watching others dance and making friends. I also appreciate the variety of styles of dance across the different routines, meaning that there is a mix of emotion, acting, tricks and more.

During the past three years I have also had the privilege of doing a Solo and in the last 2 years I have competed in a Duo, and I am doing both again this year, with my original Coach from Tinies, Brook.

I believe that I am easy to work with and will make the Sub-Juniors’ year enjoyable, and I hope that they learn from me this year and enjoy dancing with Deanne. I am extremely excited to work with them and the rest of the coaching team, to share my knowledge of Calisthenics with them, and be a Class Assistant for the first time.

Class Assistant - Grace Taylor

I started dance in a ballet appreciation class at age 4. I wanted to branch out into other styles, and at 5 I gave clogging a go (a cross between tap and line dancing). Still wanting more, I commenced calisthenics at Deanne at age 6 and have been loving it ever since.

During my 6 years of doing calisthenics, as well as my Deanne commitments, I’ve competed in solos, and was in the ACT Sub-Junior Representative Teams in 2017 and 2018. In 2019 I became a class assistant for Tinies which was a great experience.

What I enjoy most about calisthenics is the variety of routines, developing different skills, and getting to know so many people, including from others clubs when you do rep team.

I’m looking forward to getting to know the Subbies and helping them and the coaching team.

I’m really excited for what 2020 will bring :)
